ViaTV Videophones: Real Stories
A Letter to 8x8

Florida Sales Training Company Instructors and Clients Love ViaTV

Dear 8x8,

We are a sales training company located in Fort Lauderdale, FL. We teach professionals how to honestly and ethically sell their services. We have clients in 47 states and Canada. We teach a program named the Galileo® Technology of Selling® using our Electronic Classroom(tm). All training is done by long distance utilizing the telephone, fax, Internet and of course video teleconferencing.

Having been a beta test site for a major phone company's video teleconferencing solution, my company has been involved in video teleconferencing over ISDN lines before most phone technicians even knew what ISDN was. We have spent several years trying to bring the advantages of video teleconferencing to our clients but between high prices, installation nightmares, and almost no availability of ISDN in a lot of the areas we needed it, we weren't very successful. To make matters worse, the company who set us up decided that they were getting out of the video teleconferencing business altogether and stopped supporting their products.

We have experimented with some of the Internet video conferencing technologies that have come along. After evaluating most, we found them unsuitable for what we were doing. Between the configuring, the poor frame rate at average modem connection speeds, and trying to identify the words being spoken by the other party, they just did not work out. We had almost given up hope.

About 6 months ago, I was reading a popular computer magazine and came across a write up on a camera that you could plug into your TV and your analog phone line and get full duplex voice with color video over the same line at a frame rate that would be workable for our instructors and students. It was priced where almost anyone could afford it. It was called the ViaTV Phone. I remember thinking to myself, this sounds too good to be true. Probably just a lot of hype. The same hype I have grown accustomed to with other technology products. But we ordered a few anyway to try them out.

It was a good decision. We like them so much that we have been purchasing them in quantity and shipping them out weekly to our clients.

We now routinely use them to hold class sessions across the US and Canada. Having the ability to observe body language, facial expressions and attentiveness helps our instructors immensely. The results have been outstanding. Our instructors love it. Our clients love it!

Your exceptional product combined with outstanding technical support and easy over the phone upgrades tells me two things: First, you are going to be around for a long time and; second, we made the right decision. Thanks for everything!

Sincerely,

Jeff Fagan, CIO
