ViaTV Videophones: Real Stories
A Letter to 8x8 Medical Center Finds ViaTV Videophones Can Be Employed for More than Telemedicine Dear 8x8, We have owned the ViaTV product for two weeks. When it arrived, I couldn't wait to test it. While I was setting it up in an empty patient room, a nurse wanted to know what "new toy" I had. I explained the basic concept to her. She told me about a patient whose husband had died and who would be unable to go to the funeral. What could we do to help her patient? On Thursday, I visited with the pastor of Elim Lutheran Church. We brought a telephone line into the church and set up the ViaTV. At the same time set up a ViaTV phone in the patient's room. We talked camera angle and wired in a speaker phone. Cecil B. DeMille would have been proud of our efforts. At 10:30 a.m. the next morning the Pastor dialed the patient's room and she was able to attend her husband's funeral from her bed at the hospital. It proved to be a great test of your product's flexibility. On the following weekend we used ViaTV for a Wedding. The bride's mother was hospitalized and unable to attend the ceremony. We anticipate using your product for telepsyche visits to nursing homes, wound management services to nursing homes/diabetic clinics, remote access by athletic trainers to orthopaedic consults, dietary consults to other clinic and institutions and home care/public health applications. The positive feedback from the wedding and funeral have made it easier for our doctors and other healthcare providers to consider telemedicine applications. Sincerely, John M. Cahill
